A few weeks ago, on a beautiful autumn morning, I caught up with Jacquie from Redefine Personal Training. She was training Jen on a one to one basis and I can’t tell you how happy I was to be on the other side of the camera. It was a tough session but they also had lots of fun. Jacquie pushed Jen when she needed it and was so motivating. Felt quite motivated myself! Anyway find out more about Jacquie and her business.
Tell me about yourself
I’m married to Graham and we have three fun loving boys – Andrew 20, George 18 & Robbie 12. I’m passionate about keeping fit and in the prime of my life at 50, have had a total career change as well as venturing into self employment, following 30 years in the Design & Advertising arena.
When did you start your own business and what was your inspiration for doing so?

I always need to turn up the volume, singalong and jump about the kitchen!
Share something that not many people know about you…
I always wanted to be one of the backing singers in a pop band!
Best piece of advice you have been given
My best friend once said, “If you move out of your comfort zone, then success is sure to follow”. She was right!
Favourite Local business/ Shop:
Well that’s very easy-to tell you. It’s Ruby Woo in Shawlands, some may say, my second home! A ladies boutique that sells clothes, jewellery, shoes & bags. A one stop shop for any busy working woman!!!
Favourite Local Restaurant:
Always handy for a quick bowl of pasta to keep my energy levels up after a busy day with a relaxing atmosphere and very friendly & attentive staff.
If you were planning the ultimate picnic, what would be in your hamper?
It would be packed full to the brim with lots of healthy goodies with all the naughty treats hidden beneath! Especially M&S’s Ham Roast ‘low fat’ Crisps and a bottle of chilled Tattinger. Not forgetting some delicious vanilla & white chocolate tablet by The Tartan Tablet Company!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Most definitely raising three amazing sons who I couldn’t be more proud of.
If you could have one superpower what would it be ?
My superpower would be to cure everyone from any illness they have been struck down with and to make them better again!
What advice would you give to someone starting out in business?
Don’t run before you can walk. This may sound a little cheesy coming from a fitness coach, but if you don’t know the basic skills in setting up a business then you could come a cropper. Seek advice from Business Gateway- a lot of this is free and very good! Establish your brand, what your offering/services are and who your target market is.
Tell us a little about your business and why people should use it?
Improved sense of well being, longevity, disease prevention, more energy, higher bone density, better sleep, reduced stress levels, improved confidence- the list is endless. Redefine PT offers a range of exercise disciplines and will create bespoke workouts utilising training techniques to suit your needs.
Why choose/use Redefine PT?
You don’t know where to start? You’re not seeing results with your current fitness regime? You get bored with the same old workout and need a fresh perspective to make exercise more interesting & fun! You need accountability & motivation? You need to be challenged and leave your comfort zone! You hate the though of entering a gym and would rather workout in the privacy of your own home? Or you’d simply prefer supervision, company & support during your workouts?
What is your favourite plant flower and why?
I have a few! White Lillies, Sweet Peas & Daffodils. Sweet Peas because they were my mother’s favourite- she even named my sister’s wedding, ‘The Sweet Pea Wedding’ the year before she sadly passed away.
What is your best/worst character trait?
Worst- Impatient when it’s to do with anything for myself and also a bit of a hoarder – always thinking it might be useful one day.
